Website Wins Award For Best Tourism Website 2004

Mexico Tourism Board recognizes MexicanPacific.com for bringing Mexico’s Gold Coast into focus with evocative content

MANZANILLO, Mexico (March 23, 2004) – Mexican Pacific Marketing is proud to announce the Mexico Tourism Board has awarded them the prestigious “Lente de Plata” (Silver Lens) prize for the best travel website.

A panel of judges comprised of Mexican tourism officials evaluated 216 submissions from 11 countries in seven languages in award categories ranging from articles and travel guides to short films, documentaries and photographs for content, accuracy, style and how compellingly they portray Mexico's tourist attractions, services and infrastructure.

The winning Website, www.MexicanPacific.com, is a sleek travel site that was launched last year and presents the most comprehensive, captivating glimpse into natural and historic sites, ecotourism activities and accommodations along Mexico’s Gold Coast, from the Costalegre to Manzanillo and Colima. Just last month, it launched an online reservations system linking more than 10,000 monthly visitors who frequent the site directly with the area’s top hotels.

“Many travel Web sites are poorly organized with a clutter of photos and text that makes it difficult to find information on a destination,” says Mexican Pacific Marketing President Robert Oveson, who hails from southern California. “Other sites have vague descriptions of locations and tours that are written by people who have never visited the area. MexicanPacific.com is different. Our site is written in colorful, vibrant language by people who have traveled the area and know the hidden coves and beaches like the back of their hand.”

In addition to listing main sites of interest, great local restaurants and the hottest nightlife along Mexico’s Gold Coast, MexicanPacific.com has detailed stories on the area’s vibrant history, from tales of pirate ships and Hernan Cortes’s conquests to folklore of sunken treasure and lost gold. The site encourages people to investigate lesser known parts of the undulating Pacific coast, from mountain biking the Sierra Madre foothills to combing local markets, diving into watersports (scuba diving and snorkeling, sport fishing and sailing) or helping the local drive to save the giant sea turtles.

“Our goal has always been to unite the coastline and shine a light on this little-known destination as a viable travel option for people seeking to know the beaches, culture and history of real Mexico,” said Robert Oveson. “We’re proud that our efforts to bring attention to Manzanillo, Colima and the Costalegre are recognized and that the area continues to grow responsibly.”
